I was not expecting much before i started viewing this movie. It was late last Saturday night. I picked it at random, I wanted something ‘light’.. The storyline did not say much about the movie but I decided to forward with it nonetheless. And after 2 hours, I decided that this movie would definitely make it to my top 10 movies for this year! Hats off to Marc Forster and to the young actors! It is a story of jealousy, of guilt, of war and freedom, of innocent love and loyalty, of fanaticism and passion. Beautifully narrated story of two bosom friends in a country on the verge of Soviet War, and whose paths are separated, are brought back by fate. Brilliantly set, marvellously directed, with themes such as child rape, the Soviet war, the rising of the Mujahideens as on extremist regime in Afghanistan, mass emigration, etc.. are all subtly blended in the movie. Nominated for several awards, deserves many wins, imho. Brilliant!
