Little Children (2006) – 8.6/10

Awards

  • Nominated for 3 Oscars & for the Golden Globe.
  • Won numerous critics awards

Little Children is a sweet and moving tale of young marrieds who get entangled in an extramarital relationship, almost as a logical consequence of their friendship. Little Children stars Kate Winslet (Sarah) as a clumsy young mother, Patrick Wilson (Brad) as a nursing father and Jennifer Connelly (Kathy) as Brad’s ‘knock-out’ wife , along with two child-actors. The plot revolves mainly around a children’s playground and a community pool in a suburban town. The movie caresses themes of infidelity and pedophilia in an usual innocent way, like through the eyes of young children.

Little Children puts forward a story of young people, with an urge to fulfill their deepest desires, to love and to be loved, to exist in the eye of others. The characters are simple and warm, and their flaws and their irrational acts only add to their charm. The movie-makers have cared not to embrace any stereotype but have made of this movie a ray of sunshine, a glitter of hope and happiness.

The movie comes with a huge feel-good factor, coupled with a right dose of humour. Little Children is above all, human.
